Whispering Trees

From a large oak tree 4 meters high, I carved “a gateway” to the forest. Trees are very special on this “island”, after all it is reclaimed sea. Trunks of this thickness are not there yet.
For this project I was inspired by the poetry of Paul Snoeck. The collection: Welcome to my underworld. The poems from the Welcome to my underworld fit the history and landscape of Schokland.
The poets live underwater of love, they gamble on the oxygen of eternity.
Especially also carved from the tree that gives us oxygen, and is actually our lungs, applicable.
Also, Schokland was an island and has a special relationship with water.

Museum Schokland

Museum Schokland in the Northeast Polder of the Netherlands represented centuries of life with water. Schokland is a former island and reclaimed in the 1940s. It now belongs to the UNESCO world heritage.
The museum in 2023 to construct a sculpture park. The curator Henk Kloosterman selected about 15 sculptures. My works fitted in seamlessly as it was about the merging of nature and culture, new life and decay, always in change as my sculptures of wood prove.
